Classics Club June Meme #11

Each month Classics Club posts a question for us to answer. This is the June question: What is your favorite opening sentence from a classic novel (and why)?

I have been thinking about this since it was posted and I keep coming back to the same quote:
“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.”
--Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
It is such a striking and memorable start for a book and it hits just the right note to tell you what a Jane Austen novel is going to be like.
